Marcus Stroman pitched the bottom of the 10th after returning from the IL on Friday and throwing 31 pitches in that game. It was a wild game all around, as the Cubs tallied a run in the top of the 10th thanks to a bold double steal. The Cubs came inches away from an inning-ending out at home plate, too, as Evan Longoria slid in safely just before Yan Gomes’ tag. That allowed the tying run to score and the next batter, Gabriel Moreno, drove home the game-winning run with a sharp single to right field. Hayden Wesneski and the Cubs were a strike away from pulling out a thrilling victory when a line drive hit off Wesneski’s side and caromed harmlessly to the infield. The end result was a heart-wrenching 7-6 loss in the 13th inning to the Diamondbacks, a team directly behind them in the Wild Card race. ![]() Bounce after bounce went against the Cubs - literally and figuratively.
